Pieces of Margery
Pieces of Margery is an opera about the challenges a diagnosis of dementia brings to the lives of Margery and Leonard Rey.

After forty years of marriage, their settled and perfect routine is thrown into chaos by Margery’s early symptoms and diagnosis of dementia. Headstrong and independent, Margery fears losing her autonomy and her dignity while Leonard, content with the way things have always been, grapples with a new reality, fears losing the woman he loves and wonders how to negotiate the changes in the way they must live their future lives.

Pieces of Margery journeys through shock, denial and grief to understanding, love and acceptance.
Composer May Lyon’s nuanced and emotional score reflects and creates moments of tenderness, light-heartedness, and adversity. The libretto by May Lyon and Julia Vogel explores the many layers of human emotions that can be experienced on the road to acceptance.

Pieces of Margery is an 90 minute opera in one act, written for five performers and a ten instrument chamber orchestra.
